Peas Masala also known as Matar Masala is a simple and popular dish from the North Indian cuisine. It is made by fresh peas, pureed tomatoes, ginger garlic paste and wholesome Indian spices and finally garnished with Kasoori methi. It goes well with chapathi, pulao or naan. RECIPE FOR GREEN PEAS MASALA

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 1/8 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp black stone flower - optional
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 large onion - finely chopped
  • 2 green chilli - slit
  • 2 medium sized tomatoes - pureed
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder - i used spicy variety
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp kitchen king masala powder - optional
  • salt to taste
  • 1-1.5 cup peas - fresh / frozen
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp kasoori methi - crushed
METHOD
  • heat oil in the pressure cooker
  • temper with cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom powder, bay leaf, black stone flower and cumin seeds
  • saute for few seconds
  • add finely chopped onion and slit green chillies
  • saute well until it turns translucent
  • add ginger garlic paste and saute well until the raw smell goes
  • add pureed tomato, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder and kitchen king masala powder
  • mix well and cook the spices in low medium flame for 3-4 minutes or until the raw smell of spices goes
  • add peas and mix well
  • cook in low medium flame for 2 minutes 
  • now add water and mix well
  • pressure cook for 3 whistle or until it is cooked completely and then switch off the flame
  • once the pressure releases naturally, open the cooker and mix well
  • garnish with dried kasoori methi  and serve hot with chapathi, roti or naan
  • taste delicious 😋 

NOTES
  • adjust spice level according to your taste
  • do not overcook the black eyed beans otherwise they will turn mushy
  • you can also add fresh cream to make rich curry
