Ellu Thogayal is also known as sesame chutney or til ki chutney is one of the popular side dish recipe from South India, especially around the Tirunelveli district from Tamil Nadu. Ellu thogayal is prepared by grinding roasted sesame seeds, red chillies along with garlic, tamarind, salt and grated coconut. RECIPE FOR ELLU THUVAIYAL

INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 tbsp black sesame seeds
- 9 red chillies
- 1 garlic
- 1 small tamarind
- 1/4 cup freshly grated coconut
- salt to taste
- 4 tbsp water
METHOD
- dry roast sesame seeds on low medium flame until it starts to splutter
- remove from the flame and set aside
- dry roast red chillies for few seconds and set aside
- in a mixer grinder, add roasted sesame seeds, red chillies, tamarind, garlic and freshly grated coconut
- grind to a fine powder
- now add little water and salt
- grind to a smooth paste
- ellu thogayal is ready and serve with urad dal rice, idli, dosai, chapathi, etc.,
- Enjoy !
- adjust spice level according to your taste
- we can make this thogayal with or without coconut
- you can also temper this chutney with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves
