Hariyali chicken curry is one of the famous chicken recipe from Punjabi Cuisine. This chicken curry is prepared with juicy chicken breasts in the mixture of mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chili along with curd and flavorful spices. RECIPE FOR HARIYALI CHICKEN

INGREDIENTS

To Grind
  • 1/3 cup mint leaves
  • 1/3 cup coriander leaves
  • 12 green chilli
  • 1 cup curd / yogurt
For Curry
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 mace
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 large onion -  thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 500 g boneless chicken
  • 1 tsp cumin seed powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1.5 tsp kasoori methi
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • curry leaves - for garnish
METHOD
  • clean chicken pieces with turmeric powder twice or thrice
  • in a mixer grinder, add mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chilli and curd
  • grind to a smooth paste without adding water
  • heat oil in a pressure cooker
  • temper with bay leaf, cinnamon stick and mace
  • add thinly sliced onion
  • saute well in medium flame until it turns transparent
  • add ginger garlic paste
  • saute well until the raw smell goes
  • add chicken pieces
  • mix well and cook for 1 minute
  • add cumin powder, garam masala powder and salt
  • mix well and cook for 2 minute
  • add ground paste with half cup of water
  • mix well
  • pressure cook for 3-4 whistle
  • once the pressure subsides naturally, open the cooker and mix well
  • now add unsalted butter, kasoori methi and pepper powder
  • mix well and cook for 5 minutes in low medium flame
  • switch off the flame
  • serve with chapathi, rice or dosa
  • yum 😋 
NOTES - adjust spice level according to your taste, you can also cook the chicken in open pot and cook in low medium flame for 30 minutes.
